What's it all about?
Color Guard / Winter Guard, What is it?
In general, Color Guard an activity/sport that involves the manipulation (spins, tosses, flips, etc.) of equipment (rifles, flags, sabers). Usually in performance with a marching band.

Winter Guard is a performance art form that combines elements of music and dance in a competitive arena, without the marching band, inside during the winter using rifles, flags, sabers and anything else we can think of. Winter guard is definitely a spectator sport!
But it is also a highly competitive sport
.

Can Anybody Do it?
No previous guard or dance experience is required to try out. In spring clinics are held prior to tryouts to teach technique and a routine to perform at the tryout.

How Much of My Time will be Required?
Color Guard: Pre-band-camp practices beginning in early August, Band Camp for 1 week in mid-August. 3 practices during the school week, home football games on Friday nights and occassional band competitions on the weekends. Parades on Labor Day and Memorial Day and possibly 1-2 others.

Winter Guard: There are 2-3 practices during the school week late fall into winter with competitions on various weekends during January through March. Members are required to attend all practices as well as competitions.

Who Can Try Out for the Team?
Colorguard: 8th graders who will be incoming freshmen in the fall as well as freshmen, sophomores and juniors at Naperville Central High School can try out for colorguard in April/May .
It is highly suggested that you try out for the colorguard if you intend to try out for Winter Guard.

WinterGuard: Current freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors at Naperville Central High School may try out for the Winter Guard team in Oct/Nov.
